Since Sunday’s DFL party endorsing convention, I’ve had many friends, neighbors, and supporters reach out and ask me to consider continuing my campaign for city council in Ward 3. Some were among the almost 300 delegates in attendance on Sunday, and others were from the over 40,000 Ward 3 residents our campaign has sought to represent on the council.
Their message has been the same: we need pragmatic solutions addressing vital issues like housing, funding comprehensive public safety, and improving basic city infrastructure and services. Voters deserve to hear a message that addresses both their needs and their priorities.
While I consider myself a proud Democrat, I’m obliged to take this to heart. Our democracy is strongest when everyone has an opportunity to be heard through the ballot box. I respect both our endorsement process and our delegates. Our ranked-choice voting system gives us an inclusive process for voters to hear from a campaign centered on our shared challenges and shared solutions.
My commitment to the democratic principle of ensuring every voice in our community is heard must outweigh my previous intent to abide by the endorsement.
We look forward to engaging residents in every neighborhood and earning your support in November.
